NEW GUARDIAN ON THE BOW ⛵
The Lifeboat
Captain Marat stared at the models in the shop window as though choosing one might decide whether he returned home carrying a trophy—or quietly moved to another town.
“The frigate,” suggested his helmsman. “Powerful. Fearless.”
“Too many cannons,” Marat muttered. “Invites trouble.”
“The schooner?”
“Too elegant. Luck distrusts showing off.”
With only minutes remaining before the starting flare, Marat examined the ketch, rejected the galleon for looking “overconfident,” and finally reached for the smallest vessel in the collection: a humble wooden lifeboat with a black pirate sail.
The crew groaned.
“A lifeboat?” the helmsman said. “For a race?”
Marat held it above his head triumphantly.
“A lifeboat never abandons its sailors. It survives storms, rescues fools, and always finds its way home. What could be luckier than that?”
No one had an answer—mostly because the starting cannon fired at that exact moment.
They raced back to the boat and tied the little model to the bow with every spare piece of cord they could find. Marat kissed two fingers, touched the lifeboat, and ordered the sails raised.
For the first half of the regatta, nothing magical happened.
They were fourth.
Then fifth.
Then briefly sixth, after Marat insisted that a seagull crossing from left to right required an immediate change of course.
But as the fleet headed toward open water, the tiny pirate sail on the model suddenly fluttered toward shore—even though the boat’s larger sails still pulled in the opposite direction.
Marat froze.
“The guardian has spoken!”
Before anyone could stop him, he ordered the helmsman into the narrow channel beside the cliffs. The rest of the fleet continued offshore, chasing what appeared to be the stronger wind.
Marat’s crew entered the channel—and caught a powerful coastal breeze that swept them forward as if the sea itself had grabbed the boat by the stern.
They shot past sixth place.
Then fifth.
Then everyone.
Captain Marat crossed the finish line so far ahead that the helmsman threw both arms into the air and accidentally knocked the compass overboard. Marat danced across the deck, shouting, “MAGIC! ABSOLUTE MARITIME MAGIC!”
By evening, however, he insisted it had merely been excellent seamanship.
His captain’s log contained no proper record of the race—only a crude drawing of a little lifeboat crossing the finish line beneath the words:
SMALL BOAT. ENORMOUS LUCK.
The following morning, Marat personally fastened the model to the bow with three gleaming bolts.
“One bolt may fail,” he explained. “Two bolts may quarrel. Three bolts understand responsibility.”
The old broken talisman was hung in the souvenir shop beneath a new sign:
GAVE WAY TO A MORE WORTHY COMPETITOR
And from that day forward, whenever anyone laughed at the tiny lifeboat guarding Captain Marat’s bow, he simply pointed toward the regatta trophy and said:
“Getting somewhere quickly is impressive. But knowing how to bring your sailors home—that is real luck.”

Merci 🥰

Adventure Quest - The Frigate — New Guardian on The Bow
https://i.imgur.com/7OQew9qm.jpeg

New Guardian on the Bow” ⛵🌊
📍 Frigate
⚓🔥🌊 Captain Marat—as even the children on the pier called him—lived for one glorious day each year: the annual regatta, when every self-respecting sailor in town fell the ocean and one another. Marat was loud, fearless, and so superstitious that his crew had forbidden themselves from mentioning black cats, empty buckets, bananas, unlucky numbers, or anything that rhymed with “shipwreck.” For fifteen years, the same little figurine had guarded the bow of his racing boat, the unfortunately named Soggy Biscuit —and for fifteen years, Marat had credited it with every victory, safe return, and sandwich that had not fallen overboard. But during the final inspection, less than ten minutes before the starting flare, the figurine suddenly cracked in half with a dry, dreadful crunch “No-no-no-NO!” Marat howled, clutching his head while his crew exchanged terrified looks. "NOT TODAY! JUST NOT BEFORE LAUNCH!"

Marat paced the deck, muttering every nautical superstition he knew, until his gaze fell upon the nearby souvenir-shop window, where his collection of sailboat models had gathered dust for years. “EXACTLY!” he roared, frightening three seagulls off the mast and one elderly fisherman off his stool. He burst into the shop, scattering postcards and miniature anchors, and found two possible guardians from the Running on the Waves collection: a majestic Frigate , complete with proud masts and tiny golden cannons, and a plump little orange Life Boat , which looked barely capable of winning a race across a bathtub. Marat studied the Frigate first, then shook his head. "Too proud. It already believes it has won." He seized the Life Boat instead. “When the ocean becomes truly terrible, this is the ship everyone wants to see! Therefore, it must contain more luck than any other vessel afloat!” Before anyone could examine that argument too closely, he lashed it to the bow of the Soggy Biscuit with fishing line, two shoelaces, and a knot he claimed had been taught to him by a mermaid.

🌫⛵ The regatta began beneath a cheerful blue sky, but this was designed an all-day ocean race to challenge the sturdiest boats, the hardest crews, and captains brave—or foolish—enough to enter it. Before noon, the fleet sailed straight into the doldrums. The wind vanished, the sails sagged, and the boats sat motionless while crews fanned the canvas with hats, jackets, and one emergency breakfast tray. Yet the tiny Life Boat on Marat's bow began rocking gently on its own. A cool breeze curled around the Soggy Biscuit , filled its sails, and carried it smoothly past every stranded competitor. Marat raised one finger knowingly and shouted, “Advanced nautical science!” although no one aboard, including Marat, could explain what science he meant.

⚡🌊 By afternoon, the ocean had gone from asleep to furiously awake. Whipping winds tore at the sails, black squalls swallowed the horizon, and waves rose like moving cliffs before crashing over the fleet. Boats pitched, masts groaned, compasses spun, and one veteran captain was heard apologizing to every sea god by name. The Soggy Biscuit , however, sailed through as if the storm had forgotten it was there. Towering waves flattened just before reaching its hull, savage gusts bent neatly around its sails, and a waterspout advancing directly toward it suddenly veered away—as though it had noticed the little Life Boat, recognized someone important, and decided it had business elsewhere. Even the crew began whispering that the model was glowing, though Marat insisted it was “perfectly ordinary reflected sunlight” during a storm so dark that nobody had seen the sun for four hours.

🏆🌊 A page from Marat's captain's log still preserves the unbelievable finish—not in his usual dry record of times and positions, but in a crude drawing of the Soggy Biscuit crossing the line completely alone, because the captain had apparently run out of words. The boat won by such an enormous margin that the helmsman threw up his hands and accidentally dropped the compass overboard, while Marat danced around the deck shouting, “MAGIC!” before spending the entire celebration insisting that he had actually said “maritime luck.” The next morning, he personally fastened the Life Boat to the bow with three heavy bolts instead of one—“to be absolutely certain”—then hung the broken figurine in the souvenir-shop window beneath a handwritten sign: HONORABLY RETIRED AFTER GIVING WAY TO A MORE WORTHY COMPETITOR. 🌊🏆🎉

Captain Marat stood frozen before the souvenir-shop window like a man staring into the abyss of certain doom. Ten minutes to the starting gun, his sacred bow figure cracked clean in half, and every seagull in the harbor was already mocking him. Then his wild eyes locked onto one tiny model in the “Runners on the Waves” collection: a squat, slightly lopsided frigate with an absurdly oversized figurehead of a grinning dolphin wearing a monocle.

“THAT one!” he bellowed, snatching it up as if it contained the last drop of luck left in the universe. “Look at her! She doesn’t even look like she can float properly—perfect! The sea will take one glance, laugh so hard it forgets to sink us, and shove every other boat out of the way just to watch the joke finish the race!”

The crew gaped. Marat was already bolting back to the pier, clutching the monocled dolphin like a holy relic and muttering that only a ship this ridiculous could outrun the evil eye that had shattered his old mascot. He lashed the model to the bow with three bolts “for insurance,” fired a final string of sea curses at the broken original, and roared for the sails.

They won by such a ridiculous margin that the helmsman dropped the compass overboard in pure joy and Marat spent the finish-line celebration scratching a crooked drawing of the monocled dolphin into his captain’s journal instead of writing anything coherent. The next morning the old cracked figure hung in the shop under a sign that read “Gave way to a more worthy (and far sillier) one,” while the dolphin grinned from the bow, monocle flashing, as if it had planned the whole thing.

Captain Marat chose the Frigate model because, according to him, “a ship called Frigate on an actual frigate is clearly DOUBLE luck.” Nobody was brave enough to point out that this was not how probability worked. There were eight minutes until the starting rocket, and Marat was already whispering apologies to the wind, the sea, three different saints, and one particularly judgmental seagull.

He snatched the little model from the display, held it up dramatically, and announced, “Look at her! Strong bow. Full sails. Confident posture. This ship KNOWS WHERE SHE’S GOING.” The helmsman quietly observed that it was a wooden souvenir and therefore technically going nowhere. Marat stared at him until he apologized.

The tiny Frigate was tied to the bow with rope, two fishing hooks, and what appeared to be part of someone’s belt. Then they raced. And somehow—whether through wind, skill, terror, or Marat screaming “DON’T DISAPPOINT THE LITTLE SHIP!” every thirty seconds—they crossed the finish line so far ahead that the helmsman dropped the compass into the sea.

By sunset, Marat had upgraded his theory from “good luck” to “obvious maritime magic.” The next morning he bolted the little Frigate permanently to the bow with three bolts, because one bolt, he explained, was “how tragedies begin.” The old broken mascot was hung in the shop beneath a handwritten sign:

GAVE WAY TO A MORE WORTHY ONE.

Adventure Quest. The Banya - Hat For a Couple
https://i.imgur.com/ytdiexNm.png

Hat for a Couple” 🧢🧖
📍 Location: Bathhouse (Banya)
🧢🧖 In the old Banya, where Mikhalych ruled the steam room with a birch broom in one hand and a copper ladle in the other, there was a tradition that saffled every newcomer. In the dressing room, above the bench polished smooth by countless bathers, hung a magnificent black pirate hat—wide-brimmed, extravagantly feathered, and decorated with a crooked silver skull that seemed to grin at anyone wearing nothing but a towel. It was neither sold nor hidden, and no one dared to remove it from its honored nail. The regulars treated it with almost religious respect. Whenever the steam was especially fierce and the company especially cheerful, Mikhalych would take down the hat, raise it solemnly above his head, and crown the worthy guest as "King of the Steam," "Admiral of the Birch Fleet," or "Great Master of the Broom." The bathhouse would erupt with laughter—but nobody could clearly remember how such an absurd relic had earned its place of honor.

The story began many years earlier, on a bitter winter evening when a traveling theatrical troupe arrived in the village after its wagon became trapped in a snow drift. Among the frozen actors was Arkady Splendidov, a dramatic performer famous—or so he repeatedly informed everyone—for portraying pirates, princes, and men betrayed in the third act. While the others went to seek help, Arkady marched straight into Mikhalych's bathhouse, still wearing his stage costume: tall boots, a velvet coat, an enormous false mustache, and the grand pirate hat. "Prepare your hottest steam!" he commanded, flinging open the door. "Captain Black Tempest fears neither fire nor water!" Mikhalych looked at him over, handed him a towel, and replied, "In here, Captain, everyone fears the third ladle."

Arkady refused to remove the hat, insisting that a true sea captain never abandoned his vessel—or his dignity. Thus, he entered the steam room in the pirate hat, with the regulars Vasily, Fedot, and Uncle Pasha watching in delighted disbelief. Mikhalych poured the first ladle over the stones. Arkady smiled bravely. The second brought such a cloud of steam that his false mustache curled up at both ends. In the third, the feather in his hat drooped like a wilted onion stalk, and Arkady slid lower on the bench until only the skull emblem and his frightened eyes remained visible above the vapor. Still, he slamped his chest and declared, "A mere tropical breeze!"—just before trying to salute with a birch broom and striking himself smartly across the nose.

The regulars laughed so hard that Uncle Pasha fell off the lower bench, but Mikhalych decided the captain's boasting deserved a proper trial. He announced the ancient and highly unofficial bathhouse challenge: Arkady must endure one vigorous birch-brooming, plunge into the snow, and return without surrendering his pirate dignity. With a howl worthy of the final act, Arkady survived Mikhalych's broom, burst through the door, and leaped heroically into the nearest snowbank—unfortunately the one that concealing the troupe's grumpy goat, Marfa. The goat shot out wearing Arkady's towel like a royal cape, while the pirate captain raced after her through the yard in his hat and underdrawers, shouting, "Mutiny! Stop that animal!” By the time Mikhalych caught him and dragged him back inside, even the stern village blacksmith was laughing until tears ran into his beard.

To his credit, Arkady laughed louder than anyone. He stood dripping next to the stove, bowed grandly, and admitted that Mikhalych's bathhouse had conquered Captain Black Tempest more thoroughly than any imperial navy. Before leaving, he placed the pirate hat on Vasily's head, because Vasily had laughed the hardest and had also rescued the runaway towel from Marfa. "Every ship needs a captain," Arkady proclaimed, "and every steam room needs someone ridiculous enough to command it." Mikhalych liked this idea. From then on, whenever the heat was strong, the birch brooms were fragrant, and good humor filled the room, he crowned one guest with the hat. New titles were invented every week, arguments vanished under its feather, and even the shyest newcomer became part of the company after spending five minutes as the “Fearless Admiral of the Boiling Sea.”

🧢💨The screenshot is safely tucked into your pocket, and the mystery of the great steam has finally been solved. Now you know that a proper bathhouse is made not only of fierce heat, fragrant brooms, and clouds of steam, but also of a good joke that warms the company from the inside. If you visit tomorrow and find someone wearing that famous pirate hat while the whole room roars with laughter, don't be alarmed. It only means Mikhalych is in fine form again—and his beloved “hat for a couple” has found another worthy head. Light steam and a cheerful heart to you! 🧢💨
