♊Sanioka

DAY 5 — “FAREWELL, WINTER!”
Found item: Springalina’s Bath Broom — “Farewell Winter!” collection
On the morning of the celebration, the decorations slipped, the refreshments went missing, and the festival host disappeared.
I took one step toward the doorway.
John steadied the decorations while Tara climbed up to retie them. DeNae found the refreshments safely packed behind the clean towels. Julie calmed the arriving guests; Lala found the host, who had been searching the wrong room for her speech. The young employee directed everyone with the appointment book under her arm. Its cover was still green velvet.
Oksana stood beside me. “They’ve got it.”
“I can see that,” I said. I kept my hands very firmly at my sides.
The woman from the first day stepped out in her red slippers. She gave me a little wave before walking confidently toward the guests.
The staff had saved one thing for me: Springalina’s Bath Broom, a bundle of spring branches meant to sweep winter out before the festival began. They had left the flowers and ribbons loose so I could make it myself.
I tied on the final white blossom. Oksana held the bundle while I fastened its blue ribbon. Then we carried it to the doorway together. My friends and the salon staff gathered behind us, ready for the celebration they had prepared.
“Goodbye, winter,” I said, and swept the broom once across the threshold.
Outside, the last crust of snow slid from the sill. Buds opened on the branch beyond the window. A warm breeze slipped into the salon, carrying the smell of wet earth and flowers.
Tara stared at the broom. John inspected the window. Lala said, “If spring is taking requests, I’d like a working bell.”
The young employee laughed and welcomed the guests inside. I watched her go, then looked around at my restless, noisy, completely capable cubs—and at the Guild who had made room for me among them.
“Well,” I told Oksana, “it was worth doing nothing once.”
She raised an eyebrow at the broom in my hands. I smiled and set it down.
After the celebration
I left the Spring Salon five days later than I’d planned. A week after that, I found a little box at my door: aromatic oil, one spring flower, and a note in handwriting I recognized from the salon.
Bears need spring too.
I put the flower in water. I kept the note.

DAY 5 — “SPRING HAD BEEN WAITING”
Found item: Springalina’s Bath Broom — “Farewell Winter!” collection
The festival decorations slipped just as the first guests arrived. John held the garland steady while Tara climbed up to fasten it. DeNae found the refreshments behind the clean towels. I welcomed the guests, and Lala retrieved the host from the wrong room. The young employee directed everyone with the green velvet appointment book tucked under her arm.
Laura stood still long enough to see all of it. Oksana stood beside her.
The woman from Day 1 crossed the salon in her red slippers and waved. She was ready to open the celebration.
The staff had saved Springalina’s Bath Broom for Laura: a small bundle of spring branches, flowers, and ribbons for sweeping winter from the doorway. They left the final white blossom and blue ribbon for her to tie. Oksana held the bundle while Laura finished it, then walked with her to the threshold.
Laura swept once.
Snow loosened from the sill. Buds opened on the branch outside, and a breeze carried the smell of spring into the salon. Even John stopped checking the doorway long enough to look.
Behind us, the young employee welcomed the guests in. Tara came down from the ladder. DeNae passed out refreshments. Lala asked whether spring might also restore the bell’s voice. Everyone laughed, including Laura.
That evening I found the original message on my phone: Five minutes. I didn’t correct it. Those were the five minutes that brought Laura through the door. What happened afterward belonged to all of us.
After the celebration
A week later, Laura showed me a little box someone from the salon had left at her door. It held aromatic oil, one spring flower, and a note: Bears need spring too.
The flower was already in water. The note stood beside it.

Guild Quest. Day 5 The Spring Salon - Every One Else First
Guild: Double D’s

🌞 DAY 5 — “GOODBYE, WINTER!”
Theme: “Farewell to Winter!”

📌 FOUND: Springalina’s Bath Broom

🌞🌿🌷 Naturally, on the morning of Goodbye, Winter!, everything went wrong. A decoration collapsed. Two trays of pastries disappeared. Someone couldn't find the master of ceremonies. A child released three decorative chickens that Julie immediately insisted were “clearly frightened and therefore our responsibility.” The music started seventeen minutes early. Tara came running toward us shouting, “GOOD NEWS! I have identified at least four separate disasters!” “That isn't good news,” I told her. “It is if you like identifying things!” Rowan shot past us trailing sparkles, followed by two fairies and one of Julie's newly adopted chickens.

Laura stepped forward automatically.

Then stopped.

Mila was already fixing the decorations.

Anna had organized the confused guests.

Julie had rescued both the pastries and the chickens. “Everyone is accounted for,” she said, holding one hen under each arm with remarkable dignity. “Including the important parties.”

Tara had located the missing master of ceremonies. “He wasn't abducted,” she reported with mild disappointment. “He was in the coatroom.”

I had moved the outdoor equipment under cover when the wind changed.

And Elena—the woman who, five days earlier, could barely cross the Salon without grimacing—walked confidently toward the waiting crowd in the Enchantress Slippers.

Laura looked around as though reality itself had violated procedure.

“But the decorations—”

“Done,” Mila said.

“The guests—”

“Happy,” Anna answered.

“The food—”

“Protected,” Julie said.

“The host—”

“Recovered from non-alien captivity,” Tara announced.

Laura turned to Oksana.

Oksana smiled.

“We’ll manage,” she said. “You taught us.”

For once, Laura had only one job left.

At the heart of the old Salon tradition stood Springalina’s Bath Broom, a beautiful ceremonial bundle of young birch twigs, herbs, ribbons and tiny dried flowers from the Farewell to Winter! collection. According to Salon legend, the broom wasn't meant to sweep away dirt. It swept away whatever winter had left behind—tiredness, quarrels, disappointments, old worries and the gloomy conviction that warmth would never return.

While Laura prepared for the ceremony, Tara laid her Handy Dandy Notebook beside the broom.

“Guard this,” she told Rowan.

Rowan saluted.

The fairies immediately joined him.

Which, in retrospect, was probably the moment spring stopped behaving normally.

They played among the ribbons, swung from the birch twigs and chased one another through the dried flowers. Rowan polished the handle with his sleeve and accidentally left a trail of sparkling fingerprints from one end to the other.

Nobody noticed the tiny green shoots appearing among the supposedly dried twigs.

Laura carried Springalina's broom into the center of the room.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” she began, then looked at us. “And whatever Tara brought with her.”

“They’re fairies.”

“Of course they are.”

Tara beamed.

Laura lifted Springalina's broom and swept it gently through the air three times, as tradition required.

“Goodbye to what has weighed us down,” she said.

Once.

A faint shimmer passed through the room.

“Goodbye to what we no longer need.”

Twice.

The scent of flowers suddenly grew stronger.

“And welcome to whatever comes next.”

Three times.

The Salon doors opened.

Nobody touched them.

Outside, drops began falling from the roof as the last crust of snow softened under the sun. Along the bare branches beside the windows, tiny green buds swelled almost before our eyes.

Then one opened.

Then another.

Then dozens.

A breeze passed through the doorway carrying the unmistakable smell of wet earth, flowers and warm spring air.

Tara grabbed my sleeve.

“John.”

“Coincidence.”

“JOHN.”

“Seasonal temperature change.”

“THE TREE JUST BLOOMED!”

Julie laughed. “You could allow one miracle.”

“I allow statistically unusual botanical timing.”

“That,” Oksana said, “is John's version of believing.”

Then Rowan sneezed.

A cloud of golden sparkles erupted across the room.

And suddenly every eye turned toward him.

Rowan blinked.

The fairies froze in midair.

Tara slowly looked from Rowan...to the glowing broom...to the blossoming branches outside...and then back to Rowan.

Her mouth fell open.

“Wait a minute.”

I knew that tone.

“No.”

“John.”

“No.”

“The slippers.”

“No.”

“The creams!”

“Tara.”

“THE LILAC OIL!”

Julie slowly turned toward the fairies.

Oksana's eyebrows rose.

Tara gasped.

“YOU'VE BEEN BOOSTING EVERYTHING!”

Rowan looked horrified.

“I have?”

The fairies looked equally surprised.

Apparently they hadn't known either.

Before Tara could begin what would undoubtedly become a forty-page chapter in the Handy Dandy Notebook, one of Julie's chickens ran directly through Rowan's remaining cloud of sparkles.

For approximately thirty seconds, we had what appeared to be a glittering enchanted chicken presiding over the first dance of spring.

Even Laura couldn't remain serious.

She laughed.

Not the little polite laugh she used when someone thanked her. Not the sarcastic snort she used when Tara proposed a new conspiracy.

She genuinely laughed.

Around her, the Salon was alive. Elena danced in her enchanted slippers. Mila served guests without panicking. Anna sat with tea and, for once, allowed somebody else to bring it to her. Julie was negotiating with a sparkling chicken. Tara was furiously documenting “THE GREAT SPRING SALON MAGICAL AMPLIFICATION EVENT.” Rowan was staring at his own hands and whispering, “I thought I was just sparkly.”

Oksana stood beside me, looking over the entire ridiculous scene with the satisfied expression of a director whose lesson had finally reached its intended student.

Laura looked at all of us—her restless, noisy, stubborn and now demonstrably magical bear cubs.

“Well,” she said, “apparently it was worth doing nothing for once.”

“Careful,” I told her. “You might develop a hobby.”

“Don't push it, John.”

And she smiled.

🌷 Conclusion

Five days earlier, Laura had walked into the Spring Salon intending to stay for five minutes and somehow ended up repairing shoes, deciphering magical cosmetics, organizing massages, climbing out windows, being imprisoned for her own relaxation and launching spring with an enchanted bath broom. All the while, Rowan and the fairies had unknowingly been adding their own magic to the Salon's FOUND treasures—strengthening confidence, happiness, honesty, relaxation and finally the awakening of spring itself. But their magic could only amplify what was already there. The slippers could strengthen Elena's confidence, but Laura first helped her find it. The Silk Cream could reveal kindness, but it couldn't create feelings that weren't genuine. The Lilac Oil and Fragrant Candles could make rest easier, but Laura's friends had to care enough to make her stop. And by the final day, Laura no longer needed to rescue the Salon because the Salon had learned how to rescue itself—and, perhaps more importantly, how to rescue her.

🌷🐻 EPILOGUE — “BEARS ALSO NEED SPRING”

After the holiday, Laura finally left the Spring Salon.

Only five days later than originally planned.

Nothing fundamental about her changed. She was still the first person to notice when somebody needed help. She would still give someone the last piece of pie and then explain, with perfect seriousness, that she had done it only because they were eating too slowly anyway. And she still occasionally behaved as though sleep were an optional feature installed on other people.

But there was one significant improvement to the system.

The people around Laura had learned to notice Laura.

If she went too long without resting, Julie appeared with tea.

If she tried carrying six things at once, I quietly took three.

If she attempted to solve seventeen problems simultaneously, Tara opened her Handy Dandy Notebook and announced, “Bear intervention authorized!” while Rowan and the fairies prepared for operations that nobody had actually requested.

And whenever Laura protested, Oksana needed only four words.

“We’re doing this one.”

Some weeks later, Laura found a small box outside her door.

Inside was one of the Fragrant Candles from the Spring Salon, a single fresh spring flower and a folded note.

There were only four words written on it:

“Bears also need spring.”

Laura snorted.

She carried the flower inside and put it in water.

Then she lit the candle.

Almost immediately, the room filled with that same impossibly gentle fragrance from the Salon. Laura's shoulders relaxed. Her eyes grew heavy.

She stared suspiciously at the candle.

Then at the note.

Then back at the candle.

“Rowan,” she muttered.

Several streets away, a Sparkle Goblin sneezed.

Laura smiled despite herself.

And although she would later insist that she had simply forgotten to dispose of unnecessary paper, the note remained on her shelf.

Back at the Spring Salon, everyone already knew that if disaster struck again next spring, they could call Laura.

But before they did, they would put the kettle on.

They would bring out an extra chair.

And they would make sure there was a place waiting for her at the common table.

Because Laura had spent five days teaching her bear cubs how to take care of everyone else.

And somewhere along the way—with a little help from some completely accidental magic—the bear cubs had finally learned how to take care of their bear. 🐻❤🌷✨

🌞 DAY FIVE — FAREWELL, WINTER!

The festival began at noon.

Naturally, by 11:12 everything went wrong.

One garland collapsed.

The pastries arrived at the wrong entrance.

Somebody misplaced the host.

Three chairs broke.

A tray of drinks tipped over.

One curtain refused to stay attached to reality.

And someone had accidentally put the entire box of Goddess Cream on the refreshments table.

I fixed that last one immediately.

We were not emotionally prepared for another Compliment Incident.

Laura stepped forward.

Then stopped.

Because everyone else had already moved.

Nina handled decorations.

Julie helped sort the guest lists.

DeNae saved the food.

John repaired the curtain rod.

Lala found the missing host, who had somehow gotten locked inside a linen closet.

Nobody asked why.

Maribel stood near the main doors in her soft pearl slippers, absolutely glowing.

Laura turned in a slow circle.

Nobody needed rescuing.

“We can handle it,” Nina told her.

Laura looked skeptical.

“You taught us.”

That hit her.

I saw it.

Oksana smiled.

Not her mysterious all-knowing smile.

A proud one.

Then an employee carried out one final object.

A beautiful bundle of birch and flowering willow branches tied with pink ribbon.

SPRINGALINA’S BATH BROOM

It was an old Blossom Salon tradition.

The person chosen to welcome spring carried it outside and tapped the last pile of winter snow three times before bringing it to the celebration table.

Everyone looked at Laura.

Laura looked horrified.

“No.”

“Yes,” said everybody.

“I’ve done enough.”

“That’s why,” I said.

They gave Laura only one job for the entire festival.

She got to make the first spring blessing herself.

No fixing.

No rescuing.

No organizing.

Just Laura.

She carried Springalina’s Bath Broom to the salon courtyard while we followed.

The last patches of winter snow sat beneath the bare trees.

Laura raised the broom.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

“Goodbye, winter,” she said.

For one second, nothing happened.

Then the sunlight changed.

Warm gold spilled across the garden.

Snow melted in a soft rushing line away from Laura’s feet.

Tiny green buds appeared on every branch.

Flowers opened beneath the windows.

Pink.

Yellow.

Blue.

White.

Hundreds of them.

The air filled with the smell of lilacs and rain.

And directly above Laura, a cloud of flower petals swirled upward.

Everyone gasped.

Even John.

I looked at him.

He looked at me.

“Seasonal temperature shift,” he said.

Then one of the petals landed directly on his nose.

I wrote:

JOHN HAS OFFICIALLY RUN OUT OF EXPLANATIONS.

Behind Laura, I saw them.

The fairies.

Not three.

Dozens.

Tiny glowing figures dancing between the branches.

Rowan waved both arms.

They showered him in sparkles.

He looked delighted.

One fairy flew close to me.

She pressed one finger to her lips.

I nodded.

Secret safe.

Mostly.

Laura looked around at all the people she had helped.

Her noisy little family of adopted salon cubs.

Nobody waiting helplessly for her.

Nobody panicking.

Everyone helping someone else.

She smiled.

“Well then.”

We waited.

“It was worth doing nothing once.”

Lala raised her glass.

“Don’t get carried away.”

And that was how spring officially began.

🌞 DAY FIVE — THE HELPERS HAVE HELPERS

From DeNae’s Perspective

By 11:12, the festival was falling apart.

Which meant, naturally, everyone was doing exactly what they were supposed to do.

Nina grabbed the decorations.

Julie took the guest lists.

John went straight for the curtain rod.

Lala disappeared in search of the missing host.

Tara rescued the Goddess Cream before we had a second Compliment Incident.

And I went to the food table.

Because somebody had to save the pastries.

Two trays had arrived at the wrong entrance, one cake had started leaning dangerously to the left, and a bowl of strawberries had somehow become involved in a chair collapse.

I caught the cake.

Saved the strawberries.

Redirected the pastries.

Then I looked around.

Nobody was panicking.

Nobody was waiting for Laura.

That was new.

Laura had spent four days helping everyone.

Somewhere along the way, everyone had learned how to help each other.

Including me.

Nina hurried past carrying ribbon.

“DeNae, I’ve got decorations. Can you check the refreshments?”

Already doing it.

Julie called, “Guest list is fixed!”

John yelled something about needing a screwdriver.

I held one up.

He stared at me.

“Why do you have that?”

I shrugged.

“I have a bag.”

There are some questions people should stop asking.

By the time Laura stepped forward, there was nothing left for her to take over.

She turned slowly, looking almost confused.

Nina smiled at her.

“We can handle it.”

Laura looked at all of us.

I saw the exact moment she realized it was true.

That was the best part.

Not because we didn’t need her.

Because we had learned from her.

And because for once, she could stand in the middle of everything and simply belong there.

When they handed her Springalina’s Bath Broom, she immediately said no.

Everyone said yes.

I crossed my arms.

“Laura, you have exactly one job today.”

She narrowed her eyes.

“What?”

“Welcome spring.”

“No clipboard?”

“No.”

“No emergency list?”

“No.”

“No backup plan?”

“I am the backup plan.”

She stared at me.

Then laughed.

We followed her into the courtyard.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

“Goodbye, winter.”

Then everything bloomed.

Snow melted.

Flowers opened.

Petals filled the air.

Rowan nearly exploded from happiness.

Tara was staring into the trees like she had just received personal confirmation from the universe.

John was still trying to explain things.

And I stood there watching the salon staff help guests, help each other, and quietly fix little problems before anyone had to ask.

That was when I realized something.

The goal was never to become the person everyone depended on.

It was to help build a place where nobody had to do everything alone.

I looked at Laura.

She was smiling.

I looked at the others.

They were handling it.

Then Tara handed me a piece of pie.

“You’re not fixing anything for five minutes.”

I took it.

“Don’t get dramatic.”

She grinned.

And for once, I let somebody else be the helper.

🌷 EPILOGUE — BEARS NEED SPRING TOO

Laura finally left Blossom Spring Salon that evening.

Five days later than planned.

I wrote that down because historical accuracy matters.

She had gone inside to pick up one gift.

She came out with:

One salon staff that adored her.

Several new friends.

One suspiciously enchanted massage brush.

A candle set.

A spring broom.

Forty-seven handwritten notes.

And strict instructions from DeNae to go home and sleep.

Laura remained Laura.

Of course she did.

She still noticed when somebody was hungry before they said anything.

Still remembered who took sugar in their tea.

Still gave away the last piece of pie and then claimed she only did it because everyone else was “taking forever.”

Still somehow carried tissues, medicine, snacks, pens, safety pins and emotional stability in one ordinary handbag.

But something had changed.

Because the people around her had learned something too.

When Laura got tired, somebody noticed.

If she tried carrying six bags, somebody took three.

If she said, “I’ll do it,” too quickly, somebody answered:

“We’ll do this ourselves.”

The first time DeNae said it, Laura glared.

The third time, she sighed.

By the tenth time, she handed over the clipboard.

Progress.

A few weeks later, we gathered at Guild headquarters for breakfast.

Laura arrived holding a small box.

“This was outside my door.”

I nearly climbed across the table.

“Was it glowing?”

“No.”

“Buzzing?”

“No.”

“Ancient runes?”

“No.”

“Suspicious woodland animal?”

“Tara.”

“Fine.”

Inside were three tiny bottles of fragrant oil.

One spring flower.

And a note.

Laura read it aloud.

Bears need spring too.

That was all.

No name.

Laura snorted.

“This is ridiculous.”

Then she found a little vase.

Filled it with water.

Put the flower inside.

And carefully tucked the note beneath it instead of throwing it away.

I saw that.

I did not say anything.

Because sometimes love is loud.

Sometimes it arrives as a rescue mission.

Sometimes it organizes your entire life while insisting it is absolutely not helping.

And sometimes it is a tiny note left at your door by people who learned from you how to notice when someone needs something.

Across the room, Rowan Sparkle Goblin sat beside the vase.

A fairy landed on the flower.

I smiled.

John followed my gaze.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

He narrowed his eyes.

“You saw something.”

“Nope.”

“Tara.”

I opened my handy-dandy journal.

FINAL NOTES:

Mission: Explore Blossom Spring Salon.
Duration: Five days.
Original estimated duration: Five minutes.
Main discovery: Enchanted cosmetics exist.
Secondary discovery: John has reassuring eyebrows.
Critical discovery: Sometimes the person taking care of everybody needs everyone else to take care of her.

I thought about that.

Then added one final line.

Also: never believe Laura when she says she is only going inside for five minutes.

DeNae leaned over my shoulder.

“That should have been the first thing you wrote.”

Fair point.

https://upforme.ru/uploads/0019/3c/8c/7219/t599881.pngJour 5 Adieu hiver

Merci 🥰
